Important Announcement

Subscriptions are currently suspended!

Unfortunately due to COVID 19 all the United States Application Support Centers (ASC) have been closed which has prevented the timely renewal of my work authorization. As a result I will be suspending the sale of all subscriptions until further notice. The suspension only affects new subscriptions and doesn't affect current subscriptions or new releases. Support for both Core and Pro versions will continue as usual. Thanks for your understanding and support.

Tips and Tricks [Joomla]

Joomla 2.5 Text Filter Options

Text filtering is a great way to restrict what people try to save while using a editor. Depending on the settings you choose and the group you apply them to a user will either have the ability to for example write and save HTML code or have it automatically stripped out. Why is this important? The ability to save potentially dangerous code is a security risk and the decision to allow it should not be taken lightly.

In saying that I'd like to think users with Super User accounts should have the ability to save a bit of HTML or IFRAME code. The decision to allow or disallow ultimately comes down to the website administrators so I share no responsibility for any damage caused by changing the filter settings.

So where can you edit the filter settings?

In Joomla 1.7 the Text Filter options were found in Article Manager – Options but as of 2.5 they have moved over to Global Configuration – Text Filters [Figure 1].

Lets take the Super Users as an example on my sites I want them to not have any code stripped out of their editor window when saving so head over to Global Configuration – Text Filters and down the bottom you will see the Super Users group, select the Filter Type dropdown and then select No Filtering [Figure 2].

I recommend clearing the site cache and now your super users should be back to adding code to the editor window without fear of it being stripped out on save.
